About
Writers.com Books is a publishing entity established in 2003 by Writers On the Net. Writers On the Net has been offering online instruction, resources and services for writers since 1965 -- the first private writing school on the Net. Considering our background, it's not surprising that our first publication was a book about words -- The Word Book: A Guide to Misunderstood, Misused & Confusing Words With Bonus Quirky Tangents & Illuminating Quotations. We'll We continue to publish other books of interest for writers, but now have two imprints Cælum Press and infrapress.
The folks behind
Writers.com Books are Mark Dahlby and Paula Guran. Dahlby
is a mysterious character who created and has been running Writers On
the Net since its beginning. The last few years he's been traveling
a lot. Along with traipsing across the continental U.S., visiting Hawaii
and various countries in Europe, he's been to Nepal, India,
and other exotic locales. Now he's settled down near Taos, NM and become a veritable land baron and is
building a house (mostly with his own hands.) Who
knows? He may even get back to writing one of these days.
Guran has a lengthy
bio
on her DarkEcho Web
site. If you read it, you'll discover she's done a lot in the area of
dark fiction/horror and won some awards and stuff. Guran is also
strangely well-informed about publishing in general but prefers not to
divulge her sources. She teaches for Writers On the Net, has written their
almost-monthly newsletter for more than five years. She authored
The Word Book and is currently compiling The Woeful Writer. She's never been to
Nepal, but sometimes the plumbing
in her picturesque house resembles that more commonly found in Third
World countries.
